Birding Clogher Head

County Louth

The headland of Clogher Head is just under two Kilometres from the village of Clogherhead in County Louth. The local townland is called Clogher, the village is Clogherhead and the headland is Clogher Head! There is a small harbour called Port Oriel at the start of the headland walk. The harbour is a small fishing harbour and is a good place to find gulls and Black Guillemots.

There is a walkway along the headland and it is easily accessed from the harbour. It is known locally as the cliff walk. This gives you a choice of exploring the rocks along the coast or the grasses and hedges on the headland.

There is a carpark at the start of the cliff walk. It is a short walk from here to the harbour. When you get to the village of Clogher, follow the signs for Port Oriel. You can get directions in Google Maps for “Oriel Port”. Sat-Nav co-ordinates for the carpark are: 53.797398, -6.221857
