Birding Reen Pier

Reen Pier is a remote pier in Castlehaven Bay in West Cork, just a few Kilometres from the village of Union Hall. It is a departing point for Whale Watching tours operated by Cork Whale Watch and I took the opportunity to arrive an hour early and find some birds! There is a quay half way down the estuary where you can park. From here you can walk along the shore and look for birds.

This is a tidal estuary and large mudflats are exposed at low tide.  You will definitely need your Sat-Nav to visit here! You should treat yourself to a Whale watching tour while you are here. It is well worth it and it gives you an opportunity to see birds at sea, in addition to whales and dolphins. It was one of the highlights of my visit to West Cork.

Parking is available here: 51.532181, -9.165985
