Bird Watching Glendalough

Glendalough is part of Wicklow Mountains National Park and it is a popular destination for bird watching in Ireland. The park can be busy during the summer months. However, it is still worth exploring as there is a wide variety of birds present. There are 2 lakes in the park, the Upper Lake and the Lower lake.  Gravel pathways and board walks make it easy to access both lakes. Before you start exploring, it is worth taking the time to go to the visitor centre. You will find information about the park, as well as a useful map showing the various walking trails.

The walks take you along the lakes, through woodlands and sections of open fields. Search for Glendalough Visitor Centre in Google Maps. There is a large car park and information office on the site. Sat Nav co-ordinates are 53.011247, -6.323421 .

Browse through the gallery of bird photography for a sense of variety of birds you can expect to find. More bird photography will be added over time.
